Timothy Olyphant Reveals ‘Hollywood’ Return In David Fincher’s Cliff Booth Movie

Alien: Earth” actor Timothy Olyphant has let it slip during a recent interview that he’ll be returning to the role of actor James Stacy (a real person, not a fictional character) for David Fincher‘s follow-up to Quentin Tarantino‘s “Once Upon A Time In Hollywood.”

While chatting on the Conan O’Brien podcast “Conan O’Brien Needs A Friend,” the actor was directly asked if he’d been part of the film (tentatively titled “The Aventures of Cliff Booth“) and briefly mouthed “I’m in it” to co-host/comedian Matt Gourley, only for the team to offer to delete the footage from the final version of the interview after it was realized what had happened about the actor outing himself for the sequel, as Olyphant didn’t seem all that sure that the podcast was also being filmed.

Olyphant, you might remember, played Stacy as Leonardo DiCaprio‘s nervous and hungover Rick Dalton had agreed to come on to appear on the Western series “Lancer,” as the villain of the episode, leading to him composing himself to be more professional.

There had been previous reports that Booth had moved on from his previous careers as a stuntman and gofer, becoming a Hollywood fixer, which could explain characters like Yayha Abdul Mateen II playing a football player turned actor (mirroring folks like Jim Brown and Carl Weathers) and why Stacy would be returning (was heavily active in the world of television in the 1970s and shot the Kirk Douglas Western “Posse“).

Others said to be on the film’s call sheet include Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Holt McCallany, and Karren Karagulian.

We have to assume that Timothy Olyphant first caught Tarantino’s attention (alongside Walton Goggins) after his role in “Justified,” which is an adaptation of the Elmore Leonard books, as the filmmaker previously adapted his “Rum Punch” story, turning it into “Jackie Brown.”
