TV Dial: Andy Samberg Sets Up TV Cop Comedy; Bette Midler Heads To ‘Glee’ & More

nullWell folks, in today’s edition of TV Dial we have news concerning guests stars in two very different shows and two new pilots for next year.

First up, Andy Samberg could be the next SNL alum to lead a TV series as he’s signed up for a currently untitled comedy pilot from “Parks and Recreation” co-creator Michael Schur. The show, written by Schur and “Parks & Rec” writer Dan Goor, will center on “a diverse group of detectives in a precinct at the very edge of New York City” with the “Lonely Island” member playing the lead detective. Hopefully Schur and Goor can bring the same magic spark they’ve brought to the small-town politics of Pawnee. [Deadline]

Since leading the inexplicably popular “Mummy” franchise, Brendan Fraser has essentially disappeared off the face of the earth, but it looks like he’s following in the footsteps of other aging screen actors and signing up to star in a TNT drama, this one titled “Legends.” Based on the Robert Littell novel, the show will follow Fraser as “a deep-cover operative who has an uncanny ability to transform himself into a different person for each job.” TV vet David Semel will helm the pilot. Glee” has sucked another star into its orbit. At an awards show, creator Ryan Murphy put Bette Midler on the spot and asked her to guest star on a future episode. Naturally, Midler accepted and now all that’s left to do is to actually invent a character for her to play. Seeing as the show awkwardly finds a way to shoehorn in popular songs every week, we’d imagine the writing staff won't have much trouble having her show up for a sure-to-be heavily advertised appearance. And finally, the testosterone-fueled “Sons of Anarchy” has found a guest star of its own in Jane’s Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro, who will appear towards the end of this season as a member of the Byz Lats gang — a name familiar to fans of “The Shield” — who has “ties to [the] escort-business proprietor” played by Jimmy Smits. Navarro will appear in the final two episodes of the season. [The Wrap]
