Ho Ho Ho! The naughty list has a new name, and it’s Santa Claus? That’s the new plot twist of David Habour‘s (“The New Avengers,” “Avengers: Doomsday”) return as the not-so-jolly and brutal gift-giver in “Violent Night 2.” The sequel to the blood-soaked holiday action comedy is coming to theaters in early December, and the newly released trailer shows Santa going without his powers in the pic helmed by returning director Tommy Wirkola.
Harbor is joined by Kristen Bell (“The Good Place,” the “Frozen” franchise) and Jared Harris (“Mad Men,” “Chernobyl”) in the main cast. Alongside others appearing in the film in supporting roles such as veteran Joe Pantoliano (‘Bound,” “The Last of Us, “The Sopranos,” “The Goonies”), Daniela Melchior (“Fast X,” “The Suicide Squad”), Andrew Bachelor (“Greenland,” “The Walking Dead”), and AEW professional wrestler Maxwell Friedman (“The Iron Claw,” “Happy Gilmore 2”).
An official synopsis for the action flick coming to theaters on December 4, provided by Universal Pictures:
In 2022’s bare-knuckle holiday sensation, ‘Violent Night,’ an embittered Santa, armed with lethal combat skills, took out a team of mercenaries to rescue a girl and her family. Now, not-so-jolly Saint Nick suits up again to take on a ruthless gangster (Harris) terrorizing the merchants of the Silver Bell Mall. But when Santa forgets the true meaning of Christmas, he finds himself in the heart of a lively mall community in desperate need of his help. Sapped of his magic, he’ll need another way to take on the goons threatening the mall, and time is running out. Santa has to rediscover his faith in goodness and call in some last-minute reinforcements from the one person no baddie wants to tangle with: Mrs. Claus (Bell).
It comes from the action-focused production banner 87North (founded by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick), which was behind “Bullet Train,” “John Wick,” “The Fall Guy,” “Atomic Blonde,” and the two “Nobody” films starring Bob Odenkirk. Wirkola is also set as part of the producing team.
