TIFF 2026 Unveils Centrepiece, Wavelengths & Classics Lineups With Diego Luna, Radu Jude & ‘The Devils’ In 4K

The festival’s latest additions include 54 Centrepiece titles, a record eight animated features, new international discoveries, and restorations of “The Devils,” “Kissed,” and “Spring in a Small Town.”

The Toronto International Film Festival has unveiled three more major sections of its 2026 lineup, announcing 54 Centrepiece selections alongside the complete Wavelengths and TIFF Classics programs.

Centrepiece, TIFF’s main program, features filmmakers representing 50 countries, including new work from Diego Luna, Anthony Chen, Valeska Grisebach, Mahamat-Saleh Haroun, Avi Nesher, Banjong Pisanthanakun, Yonfan, Neto Villalobos Brenes, and Kamila Andini.

The program’s world premieres include Karthik Subbaraj’s “Dorothy,” produced by Guneet Monga; Andini’s “Four Seasons in Java”; Pisanthanakun’s “Inherit”; Kim Bartley’s “Lemonade”; Kyu Bock Youm’s animated “Long Long Night”; Villalobos Brenes“Love is the monster”; Nesher’s “Our Loves”; Daniel Oriahi’s “The Secret Lives of Baba Segi’s Wives”; Roshan Sethi’s “The Surgeon,” and Kris Rey’s “Trash Mountain.”

Luna arrives with “Ashes,” while Chen’s “We Are All Strangers,” Grisebach’s “The Dreamed Adventure,” and May el-Toukhy’s “Woman Unknown” will make their North American premieres.

Canadian filmmakers account for nine Centrepiece world premieres, including Marie Clements“How We Stand,” David Bezmozgis“The Betrayers,” Cody Lightning’s “Smudge the Blades,” Rodrigo Barriuso’s “Neverman,” and Juan Andrés Arango’s “Where the River Begins.”

Animation also has a larger presence than usual. Centrepiece includes a program-record eight animated features, among them Louise Bagnall’s “Julián,” Xu Zao’s “Light Pillar,” Julien Chheng’s “Muyi,” Leah Nelson’s “Tangles,” Ervin Han and Raúl García’s “The Violinist,” and Sébastien Laudenbach’s “Viva Carmen.”

The Wavelengths program includes 11 features, led by Beatrice Gibson’s long-awaited debut “At Night,” a hybrid work of autofiction shot on 16mm by filmmaker Ben Rivers.

Lisandro Alonso returns with “Double Freedom,” a not-quite-sequel to his 2001 film “La libertad,” while Nicolás Pereda brings the self-reflexive comedy “Everything Else Is Noise.” Angela Schanelec’s “My Wife Cries” examines romantic misalignment through an austere parable punctuated by bursts of life.

Among the program’s more imposing propositions is Mariano Llinás“Life of Jorge Luis Borges,” a five-and-a-half-hour exploration of the writer through the objects and locations connected to his life.

Radu Jude arrives with “The Diary of a Chambermaid,” a new political adaptation of Octave Mirbeau’s novel. Denis Côté’s contribution is “Nobody’s Violence,” while world premieres include Yuula Benivolski’s essay film “The Black Box Is Orange” and John Torres’ genre-blurring “The Remotes.”

The Wavelengths shorts and mid-length selections feature new work from Maryam Tafakory, Kamal Aljafari, Zheng Lu Xinyuan, Parastoo Anoushahpour, James Richards, John Smith, and Vika Kirchenbauer. The program will also include a rare 70mm presentation of Johann Lurf’s “Forever…Forever,” a newly restored film by Takehisa Kosugi, and a tribute to the late Italian-Armenian filmmaker Yervant Gianikian.

TIFF Classics is anchored by the North American premiere of the 4K director’s cut of “The Devils,” Ken Russell’s politically incendiary 1971 film starring Oliver Reed and Vanessa Redgrave, with sets designed by Derek Jarman.

The program also features new 4K restorations of Lynne Stopkewich’s “Kissed,” John Abraham’s “Report to Mother,” Fei Mu’s “Spring in a Small Town,” and Kon Ichikawa’s black comedy “Ten Dark Women.”

The 51st Toronto International Film Festival runs September 10–20, 2026.
