Watch: First Trailer For Edgar Wright’s Apocalypse Comedy ‘The World’s End’

The World’s EndAnd so it ends, and we’re not just talking about the end of the world. Edgar Wright and his longtime friends and collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost are finally putting the capper on their fabled, informally known Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy. Starting with “Shaun Of The Dead” and continued with “Hot Fuzz,” each film saw them take on a genre (zombie movies, buddy cop flicks) and turn them on its head, to thrilling and very, very funny results. And now it’s all coming to a conclusion with “The World’s End.”

Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan and Paddy Considine join the fun this time around, in the seemingly simple story of five childhood friends reuniting to recreate an epic night of drinking they all participated in two decades earlier. Of course, it doesn’t quite go to plan and the fate of the world winds up in their hands. The trailer just dropped over at MSN, and you can take a look below.

The film’s remained remarkably under wraps until now, but the clip finally spills a few beans, with the film looking to have an “Invasion of the Body Snatchers“-ish vibe. It looks to be on an even scale than ‘Shaun’ and ‘Fuzz’ (including some CGI elements, including what looks like a tripod), but much of the same spirit is here, from the jumping-over-the-fence callback to previous films, to familiar faces like Reece Shearsmith and even “Spaced“‘s Mark Heap joining the fun. And frankly, it makes us want to go back and watch the first two movies, and then start counting the days until this arrives.

“The World’s End” begins on August 23rd (with the lucky UK getting it early on July 19th).
