Watch: Jennifer Aniston Gets Noxious & Finally Unglams Herself In The First Trailer For ‘Cake’

CakeIn certain online circles the indie movie “Cake” is a topic of consternation. Starring Jennifer Aniston in what many called her first stripped-down, unglam performance, a la Reese Witherspoon in “Wild,” the film received what could be called polarizing reviews at the Toronto International Film Festival. Many vehemently disliked it (our reviewer wasn’t big on it either), while some called it an Oscar contender. Despite the positive buzz from some, the film failed to get distribution, so the production company decided to take action, creating Cinelou Pictures with the purpose of distributing and releasing their product. And the company quickly announced a one-week qualifying run for "Cake" in December, followed by a wide release in January.

But then many asked, where is that trailer? Well, the lead time for indies scrambling to get their marketing in order isn’t quite as big as the six-month-out window that most studio movies get, but the trailer for “Cake” is finally here.

Co-starring Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington, Lucy Punch, Chris Messina, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy, Mamie Gummer, and Adriana Barraza, Aniston stars as an acerbic woman who becomes fascinated by the suicide of another woman (Kendrick) in her chronic pain support group. As she uncovers the details of the suicide, she also grapples with her own personal tragedy and initiates a dubious relationship with her widower (Worthington). Aniston’s character looks like a total piece of work, like "Margot At The Wedding" or "Young Adult" (it’s possible she could earn a spot on our 10 Great Self-Absorbed, Narcissistic Movie Assholes list).

Directed by Daniel Barnz, “Cake” seems poised to be a Golden Globe contender because… well, the Hollywood Foreign Press are predictable shills and this one already seems like it’s in the bank for Aniston. But whether it has the might to score an Oscar nomination, well that seems pretty doubtful. Regardless, you can judge for yourself. The first trailer for the film is here along with three clips from the picture. Watch below.
