Plot Synopsis For Woody Allen's New Film Revealed As Production Ramps Up For July Start In Spain

Earlier today, we reported that the cast for Woody Allen’s upcoming film has been announced and that filming would begin next month. And hot off the heels of that story breaking, the production company behind the new film has confirmed the casting, while also giving us a plot for what will be Allen’s first film since his sexual assault allegations resurfaced and outrage followed.

While the new film doesn’t officially have a title, MEDIAPRO released a statement confirming that Allen’s next film will feature the acting talents of Elena Anaya (“Wonder Woman,” “The Skin I Live In”), Louis Garrel (“The Dreamers,” “A Faithful Man”), Gina Gershon (“Killer Joe,” “Bound”), Sergi López (“A Perfect Day,” “Pan’s Labyrinth”), Wally Shawn (“Shadows and Fog,” “Manhattan”), and Christoph Waltz (“Django Unchained,” “Inglorious Basterds”).

In addition, the film has a synopsis:

“The film tells the story of a married American couple who go to the San Sebastian Film Festival. They get caught up in the magic of the festival, the beauty, and charm of Spain and the fantasy of movies. She has an affair with a brilliant French movie director, and he falls in love with a beautiful Spanish woman who lives there. It is a comedy-romance that resolves itself in a funny but romantic way.”

Yep, sounds about right for a Woody Allen film.

“At MEDIAPRO we’ve been working with Woody Allen for 14 years,” said Jaume Roures, founding partner of MEDIAPRO. “His films, like every project the group produces, have a unique personality. This latest movie has all the ingredients to be right up there along with what we’ve become accustomed to from a director of Woody Allen’s talent: an intelligent script and a first-rate international cast. In addition, we’re delighted to be able to shoot the movie in a city such as San Sebastian, which has such strong ties to cinema.”

The untitled film, Allen’s 51st, is set to begin production in San Sebastian on July 10 and will run until August 23. The filmmaker has previously worked with MEDIAPRO on films such as “Midnight In Paris,” “You Will Meet A Tall Dark Stranger,” and “Vicky Cristina Barcelona.”
