According to Deadline, actress Zawe Ashton has been cast in an unknown role in “Captain Marvel 2.” Though it is unknown which character she will actually portray, the report claims that whoever it is, Ashton will be the villain of the film. As we know from the first “Captain Marvel,” as well as other films in the MCU, sometimes the real villain of the film isn’t revealed until the very end, so even if Ashton is said to play a good guy, keep in mind that she’s likely going to switch allegiances.

Ashton is probably best known for her recent film work, including roles in “Velvet Buzzsaw,” “Nocturnal Animals,” and “Greta.” On TV, she’s appeared in “Doctor Who” and “Wanderlust.” She’s also expected to have a role in the forthcoming season of “The Handmaid’s Tale.” Obviously, even with those credits, a role in “Captain Marvel 2” is probably her biggest project to date.

Ashton joins Brie Larson in the new film, who returns as Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel. Marvel Studios has already announced that Iman Velani, of “Ms. Marvel,” and Teyonah Parris, of “WandaVision,” will also show up in the sequel. “Captain Marvel 2” is set to be directed by Nia DaCosta.

As of now, “Captain Marvel 2” is expected to be released on November 11, 2022.
