Amazon Acquires Leos Carax's ‘Annette’ With Adam Driver, Rihanna & Rooney Mara

While everyone else is freaking out about “The Girl In The Spider’s Web” happening without Rooney Mara, it’s worth remember that the actress has some great projects on deck. Later this year, she’ll be in cinemas playing the lead in “Mary Magdalene,” she’s currently filming Gus Van Sant‘s “Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot,” and after that it looks like next on the schedule is Leos Carax‘s “Annette.”

In yet another big arthouse move, Amazon has scooped up the U.S. and Canadian rights to the movie that will feature Mara, Adam Driver, and Rihanna (holy casting!). The film mark Carax’s English-language debut, and will feature music by the band Sparks. And while exact plot details aren’t being given away just yet, early reports say the story revolves around a stand-up comedian whose opera singer wife is deceased, and his two-year-old daughter, who has a surprising gift.

Production on the movie begins this spring, which probably means that Mara won’t get to Brady Corbet‘s ambitious musical “Vox Lux” until after wraps on “Annette.” It’s probably safe bet that the Cannes Film Festival will be putting this one high on their wish list for next year, and we certainly can’t wait to see how it all turns out.
