Jared Leto May Play 'Bloodshot'

Jared Leto went through a lot of method acting and costuming to play what was ultimately a superfluous supporting part as the Joker in “Suicide Squad.” Perhaps eager to have a franchise where he’s the star, and not positioned into a fan service role, the actor is now chatting with Sony about toplining a superhero flick over there.

THR reports that Leto is eyeing “Bloodshot.” Oscar Isaac, James McAvoy, Jake Gyllenhaal, Nicholas Hoult and Mark Wahlberg were reportedly on this wishlist for the movie earlier this year, but I guess it’s Leto who’s taking the calls from the studio.

Sounding very familiar, “Bloodshot” is based on the comic of the same name, which follows a soldier with regenerative and morphing powers, who gets his memory wiped, and seeks revenge on those who made him this way, while battling the mob and police.

Visual effects veteran Dave Wilson is lined up to make his directorial debut with the movie. Sony is hoping to launch a cinematic universe with “Bloodshot” and other Valiant Comics titles, so it’ll be a big one for Leto if all this works out. However, one wonders if this means Joker’s days in the DC Films universe are already over.
