2 Tracks From 'Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri' [Exclusive]

This fall, you’ve likely been hearing plenty of music from Oscar-nominated composer Carter Burwell. He’s put his magic touch already on “Goodbye Christopher Robin” and “Wonderstruck,” and this month, he shows his talent and range once again with the score for “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.”

The new film by Martin McDonagh (“Seven Psychopaths,” “In Bruges“) follows Mildred Hayes (Frances McDormand), who makes a bold move, commissioning three signs leading into her town with a controversial message directed at William Willoughby (Woody Harrelson), the town’s revered chief of police, after months have passed without a culprit in her daughter’s murder case. When his second-in-command Officer Dixon (Sam Rockwell), an immature mother’s boy with a penchant for violence, gets involved, the battle between Mildred and Ebbing’s law enforcement is only exacerbated.

“I think that the music is really putting you in the position of Frances’s character,” Burwell explained. “I think it’s almost always what the music should be doing, helping you to see things from her point of view, when she does things that might be reprehensible, to help you understand what she’s doing.”

Indeed, the two exclusive tracks you can hear below — “Mildred At War” and “My Dear Anne” — provide different musical perspectives as we follow Mildred on her journey.

Rounded out with songs Townes Van Zandt, Monsters of Folk, The Four Tops, and Joan Baez, Varèse Sarabande will release the original soundtrack to “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” digitally on November 10th and on CD November 17th. The film opens tomorrow.
