After the breakout success of “My Old Ass,” Megan Park appears to be staying in the coming-of-age space, only this time in long-form television. Park’s second feature as director premiered at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival, was released by Amazon MGM Studios, and became one of the year’s most acclaimed coming-of-age films, blending comedy, heartbreak, and emotional honesty into something genuinely memorable (read our review). Now, Park is bringing that same sensibility to “Sterling Point,” a new Prime Video drama series from Fake Empire and LuckyChap.
Prime Video has released the trailer and new photos for “Sterling Point,” which premieres globally on August 5 with all eight episodes streaming at launch. The trailer also features “Look at My Life,” a new song from Gracie Abrams’ forthcoming album, Daughter from Hell, due out July 17.
Created by Park, the series follows 17-year-old Annie Jacobson (Ella Rubin), who has spent her life in New York City alongside her twin brother (Keen Ruffalo) and loving adoptive father (Jay Duplass). But when Annie inherits her mysterious grandfather’s island in Canada, she’s thrust into an unfamiliar world of new friendships, first loves, and long-buried family secrets.
The ensemble cast also includes Amélie Hoeferle (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes,” “Night Swim”), Jacob Whiteduck-Lavoie (“Billie Blue”), Daniel Quinn-Toye (“Sunny Dancer”), Bo Bragason (“Renegade Nell,” “The Radleys”), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“The Walking Dead”), Nikko Angelo Hinayo (“Davey & Jonesie’s Locker”), Mabel Strachan (“The Ridge”), Elle-Máijá Tailfeathers (“Three Pines”), and Missi Pyle (“Harlan Coben’s Shelter”).
Park serves as director, co-showrunner, and executive producer alongside Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage under their Fake Empire banner, with Dani Gorin and Tom Ackerley executive producing for LuckyChap. Amazon MGM Studios, Fake Empire, and LuckyChap produce the series.
If “My Old Ass” showcased Park’s gift for telling funny, emotionally rich stories about growing up and figuring out who you are, “Sterling Point” looks poised to explore similar territory across eight episodes. Whether it captures the same magic remains to be seen, but Park’s move into television is an intriguing next step for one of the more exciting voices working in the genre today.
“Sterling Point” premieres August 5 exclusively on Prime Video.
