Production for “Alien: Earth” Season 2 has officially begun in London, and the start of shooting brings some new casting news. THR reports three additions to the cast sheet: Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell, and Jerome Flynn. No word on who any of the three will play in the upcoming batch of episodes, but Noah Hawley fans will remember he’s worked with Spruell once before, on “Fargo” Season 5, where Spruell played sin-eater Ole Munch. Also of note, Flynn is the second “Game Of Thrones” alum to join “Alien: Earth” for S2. The other? Peter Dinklage, so it’ll be a reunion of sorts between Lord Tyrion and Bronn.

The four new cast members join the returning Sydney Chandler, Alex Lawther, Timothy Olyphant, Essie Davis, Babou Ceesay, Samuel Blenkin, Adarh Gourav, Jonathan Ajayi, Erana James, Lily Newmark, Adrian Edmondson, Davis Rysdahl, Moe Bar-El, and Sandra Yi Sencindiver. Plot details for “Alien: Earth” S2 remain under wraps, but Hawley tipped off THR on what to expect in an interview after last season’s finale. “This chapter is closed, but Yutani troops are landing. The balance of power has shifted,” he teased. “These children have no idea what’s coming. The last line of, “Now we rule” is triumphant and uplifting. But cut to 10 minutes later … what is going to be happening? So I like that it has that real-time urgency to it.”
“Alien: Earth” was a big hit for FX when it premiered last summer, breaking streaming viewership records on FX On Hulu and notching high marks from critics. The show didn’t get renewed for another season until last November, part of a new overall deal Hawley signed with FX & Disney Entertainment Television. Hawley’s series remains the go-to source for more xenomorph/Weyland-Yultani content as Fede Álvarez, Ridley Scott & co. figure out what’s going on with their “Alien: Romulus” sequel. In any case, between that 2024 legacy sequel and Hawley’s series, it’s a great time to be an “Alien” fan.
Ullman’s other upcoming work includes “Ted Lasso” Season 4 on Apple TV, with her most recent TV turn a guest spot on the CBS show “Elsbeth.” Other recent credits for the Emmy-winner include Netflix’s “Black Doves,” “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” and “Mrs. America.”
Like Flynn and Dinklage, Spruell is also a “Game Of Thrones” alumnus, only for a different series, “A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms.” Other recent roles for the actor inclue Paramount+‘s “The Gold” and the BBC limited series “Dear England.”
Flynn’s recent TV roles include “Yellowstone” prequel “1923” and the Channel 4 series “The Change.”
Will these new “Alien: Earth” castings be the final ones for Season 2? Watch this space on that. The next installment of Hawley’s series should premiere sometime next year; let’s call it Summer 2027 to be safe.
