This Movie Will Probably Be Terrible In Every Dimension
Every time 3D is used as a novelty (though, wouldn’t that be every time?) James Cameron cries. And he might be crying a lot next year. “Piranha 3DD” (yes, that’s the title), the sequel to the summer’s modest box office hit “Piranha 3D,” is already gearing up to get in front of cameras with an eye for an August 2011 release. And now, another water-bound 3D thriller (trend alert?) is on the way.
Relativity Media has picked up the rights to David R. Ellis‘ (“Snakes On A Plane,” “Final Destination“) currently untitled 3D shark movie that had a working title earlier this year of “Shark Night 3D.” The film stars some b-roll talent such as Sara Paxton, Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka with the story revolving “around seven men and women who spend a weekend at a lake house in Louisiana’s Gulf area. When their vacation quickly becomes a nightmare of hellish shark attacks, unheard of in freshwater lakes, they soon discover that the sharks are part of a sick, greedy plan on the part of several locals.” Walls and Diaz will play a young couple, Carmack will play the ex-boyfriend of one of female leads who was scarred in a boat accident while Moore will provide comic relief as “a socially awkward guy who fancies himself a young Brad Pitt.”
The film was written by Jesse Studenberg and Will Hayes and it’s currently in post-production with a release date being eyed for 2011. As for how this will fare, remember “Jaws 3D“?
