Director of photography-turned-director Jeremy Saulnier had made some films prior to his breakthrough success, but it wasn’t until 2013’s “Blue Ruin” took Cannes — it won FIPRESCI prize in the Directors’ Fortnight selection — and TIFF by storm that he was shot into a must-work-with stratosphere. So his next film, “The Green Room” got interest really fast, attracted a starry cast, and is now gearing up to debut again in the Cannes Directors’ Fortnight.
The cast includes Patrick Stewart, Anton Yelchin, Imogen Poots, Alia Shawkat, Joe Cole, Callum Turner, Mark Webber, Eric Edelstein, and Kai Lennox. While it’s unclear who plays who in the film, there is a ton of buzz around Stewart taking the part of the head white supremacist. Here’s the official synopsis:
In the harrowing crime thriller GREEN ROOM, a young punk rock band find themselves trapped in a secluded venue after stumbling upon a horrific act of violence, fighting for their lives against a gang of white power skinheads intent on eliminating all witnesses.
