When Brett Ratner and Eddie Murphy got together to make the limp, star-studded comedy “Tower Heist” more than a half a decade ago, it sparked a bromance that led to lots of talk between them about doing “Beverly Hills Cop 4,” but without much follow through. But the pair have now found a project to work on together, and it will bring them to Netflix.

Ratner and Murphy will direct and star in “Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story” for the streaming service. Even though audiences roundly rejected “Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping,” it seems everyone is confident people will care about this mockumentary about the titular artist, a ’60s soul singer, who gets the band back together and attempts to bring down the entire genre hip hop, after one of his songs gets sampled. Okay, then.
Chris Case (“Legit,” “Sin City Saints“) is writing the script, and while negotiations are ongoing with Ratner and Murphy, apparently nothing will be finalized until they approve. Though, given “Tower Heist,” I would assume it’s a low bar to clear. [THR]
