While director George Miller has been insisting for a while now that the upcoming black and white version of “Mad Max: Fury Road” is his preferred vision of the movie, it’s been a tough argument to buy. The film’s full-throttle appeal is thanks in part to its vibrant color scheme, giving its apocalyptic desert backdrop vigor and visual life. However, in a new featurette promoting the upcoming Black & Chrome Blu-ray edition of the movie, Miller makes the case again, and the first footage of the new monochrome, color timed movie, makes his position is a little more persuasive.
While there have been fan edits and examples of ‘Fury Road’ floating around the web, they are mostly just from people taking the existing home video release and running it through a black-and-white filter, and throwing it online. Here with the correctly timed version, there’s a great richness to the images, and Miller reveals that his love for the two-tone “Mad Max” goes all the way back to a dupe version he saw of “The Road Warrior” decades ago.
