Home is supposed to be the place people escape to, but Netflix’s “The Last House” turns that idea into the trap itself. The new thriller from director Louis Leterrier centers on a family of four who suddenly find themselves sealed inside their own home, with no way out and no clear answer for what is keeping them there.

Written by Matthew Robinson, the film follows the family as they try to survive dwindling resources while contending with a mysterious threat outside—or around—the house. The premise puts pressure on the most familiar of domestic spaces, turning shelter into a form of confinement and forcing the family to work together as the situation grows more desperate.
Greta Lee and Wagner Moura lead the cast, with Gabriel Barbosa, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Riley Chung also starring. The film is produced by Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, Kori Adelson, Leterrier, and Oly Obst. Executive producers include Thomas Benski, Cecile Gaget, Lars Sylvest, Thorsten Schumacher, and Damian Anderson.
For Netflix, “The Last House” adds another contained thriller to a release slate that continues to lean into high-concept genre premises built around clean, immediate hooks. A sealed house, a family under pressure, and a threat that may be impossible to understand before it is too late give the film a simple but potent engine.
“The Last House” releases globally on Netflix August 7, 2026.
