Neill Blomkamp is currently in a pretty fascinating part of his career. For the moment, he’s stepped away from Hollywood and launched his own Oats Studio, an experimental business that sees the filmmaker trying to get his various works directly to fans – while using the opportunity to try out different genres and VFX on the fly. Blomkamp has long been interested in bringing his own ideas to the big screen instead of working on someone else’s branded property, (no, I haven’t forgotten about “Alien,” more on that in a second) so don’t expect him to run to Marvel or DC Films anytime soon.

Perhaps it’s not a surprise that Blomkamp digs “The Dark Knight” trilogy and “Blade,” given they’re cut from a pretty different cloth than the current Marvel/DC cinematic universe template.
Meanwhile, a sequel to “District 9” has been discussed forever, and Blomkamp isn’t ruling it out. However, he wants to ensure that when he does make “District 10,” it’s substantive and there’s real passion behind it.

Lastly, while Blomkamp has been happy to answer questions about his “Alien” movie that was essentially scrapped by Ridley Scott, don’t hold out hope that it’s going to get made at some point down the road. It’s not.
