Got a Tip?

Kristen Stewart Says New ‘Charlie’s Angels’ Will Be “Grounded” And Not An “Impression” Of The Others

It’s pretty clear from the cast brought together for Elizabeth Banks’ “Charlie’s Angels” reboot that this wasn’t going to be just another campy version of the franchise. That campy, over-the-top “Charlie’s Angels” is exactly what Drew Barrymore, Lucy Liu, and Cameron Diaz brought to the films in the early 2000s. But when you hire Kristen Stewart to star in the action film, you know it’s going to take the source material a bit more seriously.

And in a new interview with ET, Stewart says exactly that. “It is true I think, it is not maybe everyone’s immediate response that it would be, like, something we would have to see again because the [Charlie’s Angels films] I grew up with was so much fun, and you know, the re-imagining is so grounded and well-intentioned and really shows the way women can work together now. It tries to be warm and funny, but it lacks a kitch element that we have seen before that works so well,” Stewart said.

She continued, “We are not trying to do an impression of the last one, so yeah, I think Liz is like so genuinely naturally funny all the time anyway.

The reboot stars Stewart alongside Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska. As mentioned above, “Charlie’s Angels” will be directed by Elizabeth Banks, who’s coming off directing the second installment of the “Pitch Perfect” series. Banks will also star as Bosley, the liaison between the titular Charlie and his Angels. Banks is co-writing the film alongside writer Jay Basu, who is probably best known for his “Monsters: Dark Continent” and the upcoming “The Girl in the Spider’s Web.”

As Stewart says in the interview, she begins fight training soon and will begin production on the film shortly thereafter. “Charlie’s Angels” is scheduled for release on September 27, 2019.
