David Gordon Green Says ‘Halloween Kills’ Asks The Question, “What Happens When Fear Goes Viral?”

You could argue that the biggest issue with David Gordon Green’sHalloween” reboot back in 2018 is that the film was more of a retread than expected. The film served both as a reintroduction to the concept of the battle between good and evil, with Michael Myers once again stalking Laurie Strode. But according to the filmmaker, the sequel, “Halloween Kills,” is something completely different.

Speaking to TotalFilm, Green talked about the new sequel, which is coming to theaters in October (after being delayed from last Halloween due to COVID). And it’s clear that Green and his cohorts understand the issues with the “Halloween” reboot and are making sure that the second film doesn’t tread familiar ground again.

“When we made the last one we wanted to find a way for someone who’s never seen the original to get up to speed with the story,” he said. “But this one gets right to the action. It’s very aggressive. It’s more efficient. We wanted it to be an explosive middle before things get streamlined and personal again.”

So, what is “Halloween Kills” actually about? We know the film picks up almost immediately after the latest battle between Strode and Myers, which left the slasher seemingly burning alive in her basement. Well, it would appear that ‘Kills’ is focusing not just on the killing and mayhem but also the idea of fear.

“It’s about the creation of fear,” said Green. “It’s one thing to be afraid of the Boogey Man, to have someone who might be in the closet, under the bed, creeping around your house… But we wanted to explore next was confusion, misinformation, and paranoia. What happens when fear goes viral? You can’t just stick your head under the covers anymore.”

As mentioned, “Halloween Kills” is set to arrive in theaters on October 15. You can see the new image from the feature below.
