Got a Tip?

Blumhouse Television Developing Series About Vince McMahon’s WWE Steroid Trial

With the working title of “The United States of America vs. Vince McMahon,” WWE and Jason Blum’s Blumhouse Television are developing a scripted series about Vince McMahon and his federal steroids trial. The series is set to be the first scripted portrayal of McMahon, the Chairman and CEO of WWE, as well as many legendary figures of the WWE (if you have jabs about the nature of wrestling itself, save it). The series is being made under the guidance of Blumhouse TV president Chris McCumber, who worked with McMahon for years during the former’s time as an executive at NBCUniversal. “We have a dramatic, riveting saga – one that’s crazier than fiction – that will appeal to the cross-section of Blumhouse and WWE fans,” said McCumber, “To say I’m thrilled about collaborating again with WWE is an understatement.”

A figure responsible for vast changes in professional wrestling, the good and the extremely bad (looking at most professional wrestlers who have left WWE, all the bad stuff really does come from McMahon’s vice grip on the franchise and self-undermining decision making), McMahon has been helming WWE for approximately four decades. He also began appearing onscreen as the Mr. McMahon character in the mid-1990s, famously feuding with top star ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin, among others. In 1994, the U.S. government indicted McMahon for allegedly supplying anabolic steroids to WWE talent. McMahon refused to take a plea deal, stood trial, and was ultimately acquitted unanimously by the jury.

McMahon, as well as WWE executive producer and chief of global television distribution Kevin Dunn, will serve as executive producers on the project, so no doubt it’ll be an honest and in-depth look at events. No writer is currently attached to the project, so here’s hoping they’re announced with a theme song and a giant plume of smoke.
