Even the best intentions sometimes can turn into a nightmare, and this is a situation that Dolores Roach finds herself in after serving an unjust prison sentence in the new Prime Video series, “The Horror of Dolores Roach.”
As seen in the trailer for the series, “The Horror of Dolores Roach” follows the story of the title character, who finally gets out of prison after 16 years, only to find herself needing to find a job to escape her current situation. She then opens up a makeshift massage spa in the basement of an empanada shop. However, after a massage goes horrifically wrong, Dolores suddenly finds herself in a terrifying situation where she has to, uh, get rid of the body of a client.
The series stars Justina Machado as the title character. She’s joined in the cast by Alejandro Hernandez, Kita Updike, and K. Todd Freeman. ‘Dolores Roach’ is based on a Spotify podcast by Aaron Mark, who co-showruns the new series adaptation alongside Dara Resnik.
“The Horror of Dolores Roach” debuts on Prime Video on July 7. You can watch the trailer below.
Here’s the synopsis:
The Horror of Dolores Roach, based on the hit Spotify podcast series of the same name, is a contemporary Sweeney Todd-inspired urban legend of love, betrayal, weed, cannibalism, and survival of the fittest. Dolores Roach (Justina Machado) is released after an unjust 16-year prison sentence, and she returns to a gentrified Washington Heights. Dolores reunites with an old stoner friend, Luis (Alejandro Hernandez), who lets her live and work as a masseuse in the basement under his empanada shop. When the promise of her newfound stability is quickly threatened, “Magic Hands” Dolores is driven to shocking extremes to survive.
