Nothing has taken the pop-culture world by storm like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” getting released on the same day this summer. The Barbenheimer weekend will go down in history and will forever link the two films. Recently, however, the conversations around “Oppenheimer” have shifted to discussing the importance of physical media, thanks to the film’s director, Christopher Nolan.
Nolan made a playful jab at streaming services while speaking out about the physical release of the film, stating, “We put a lot of care and attention into the Blu-ray version… and trying to translate the photography and the sound, putting that into the digital realm with a version you can buy and own at home and put on a shelf so no evil streaming service can come steal it from you.”
Whether or not you agree with Nolan’s statement about the importance of owning physical media, the time has now come for audiences to have the opportunity to own the widely praised and talked about film. Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has officially released the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, and digital versions of “Oppenheimer” on November 21, 2023.
The film tells the story of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer and the team of scientists tasked to develop and design the atomic bomb and how its creation changed the course of history. The gripping drama stars Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downy Jr., Florence Pugh, Josh Harnett, Casey Afflect, Benny Safdie, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh.
As mentioned above, the team has worked to create a special home entertainment experience, so the release includes over three hours of bonus content and special features. Some of these include the making of “Oppenheimer” trailers, a look into the FotoKem film labs, the Meet The Press Q&A, and more.
