Robert Eggers’ Next Film Is ‘Werwulf’ Arriving Christmas 2026

Film fans were definitely excited when it was announced that Robert Eggers’ “Nosferatu” was being released on Christmas Day. Sure, it seems like an odd time to release a gothic horror film, but it ended up working swimmingly, as the film because a critical and commercial success. Now, it appears Christmas is Eggers’ preferred release time, as he’s prepping a new film, titled “Werwulf.”

According to Deadline, Robert Eggers has found his next project, an upcoming horror film titled “Werwulf.” Focus Features, who financed and released “Nosferatu,” is returning to finance and distribute the new film. Not much is known about the plot of the film, but we do know that Eggers is co-writing the script alongside “The Northman‘sSjón. We also know “Werwulf” is expected to arrive in theaters on Christmas in 2026. With a title like “Werwulf,” you have to assume the project deals with some sort of werewolves.

As mentioned, Eggers has only seen his projects grow at the box office with each new film. “Nosferatu” is his biggest success, earning more than $156 million globally. It’s clear that Eggers’ unique filmmaking style, which is hyper-detailed and period specific, seems to have hit a nerve with film fans around the world. 

With a release date of Christmas 2026, it appears Eggers is expecting to go into production on “Werwulf” at some point this year. We’ll have to keep an eye out to see when that might happen. We should also hear about who might star in the film fairly soon too.
