A bloody cartel murder, a derelict stash house, and millions in hidden cash set the stage for “RIP,” the latest crime thriller from Joe Carnahan, which reunites longtime collaborators Matt Damon and Ben Affleck after their recent turns in “The Last Duel” and “Air.”

Their partnership is the rare kind that’s lasted decades. Long before co-writing the Oscar-winning “Good Will Hunting,” Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were high school friends dreaming of Hollywood. That bond has endured—personally and professionally—through the pressures of an industry notorious for fallouts and fractured creative relationships.
It was only natural that the duo would co-found Artists Equity, the production company committed to making quality, commercially viable films. With the success of “Air,” the promising box office debut of “The Accountant 2,” and now “RIP” heading to Netflix, their streak continues.
The film, written and directed by Joe Carnahan from a story by Carnahan and Michael McGrale, also stars Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Néstor Carbonell, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Kyle Chandler, Scott Adkins, and Lina Esco. Produced by Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, Dani Bernfeld, and Luciana Damon, with Kevin Halloran and Michael Joe as executive producers, it’s a return to the gritty, muscular storytelling of “Smokin’ Aces” and “The Grey.”
Logline: Upon discovering millions in cash in a derelict stash house, trust among a team of Miami cops begins to fray. As outside forces learn about the size of the seizure, everything is called into question — including who they can rely on.
“RIP” will release globally on Netflix on January 16, 2026.
