‘Runner’ Trailer: Owen Wilson & Alan Ritchson Lead Scott Waugh’s Race-Against-Time Action Thriller

Angel Studios used its CinemaCon presentation on April 13 to unveil the first teaser for “Runner,” an action thriller from Scott Waugh that pairs Alan Ritchson and Owen Wilson in a familiar but sturdy big-screen setup: a desperate delivery, a ticking clock, and a violent criminal force closing in from every direction. The film is set for a theatrical release on September 11, 2026.

Per Angel, Ritchson plays a former soldier pulled into a brutal chase after a critical medical delivery puts him in the crosshairs of a ruthless cartel. The ensemble also includes Rodrigo Santoro, Leila George, Kate Box, Peta Sergeant, Geraldine Hakewill, Cecilia Toussaint, and Scarlett Crabtree.

That setup is pure high-concept propulsion, and Angel is clearly selling the movie as a theatrical crowd-pleaser, with enough sentiment baked into the mayhem to broaden its appeal beyond standard action fare. In the studio’s announcement, Waugh framed the film as exactly that kind of broad, emotional studio-style ride.

“Partnering with Angel is a game-changer, because Runner is the kind of theatrical film audiences have been waiting for – big action, real heart, and a story that brings light into this world,” Waugh said. “When everything’s on the line to save a life, real men don’t run from the fire; they drive straight into it.”

Angel rolled the teaser out as part of a larger 2026 slate presentation at CinemaCon, with “Runner” positioned as one of the company’s fall theatrical bets. Whether the film can break through in a crowded studio marketplace is another question. Still, the Ritchson-Wilson pairing gives it an unusual enough hook to stand apart from more generic chase thrillers.

Angel also used its CinemaCon presentation to sketch out the rest of its 2026 slate, announcing “The Brink of War,” a Cold War drama starring Jeff Daniels, Jared Harris, and J.K. Simmons; “Angel and the Badman,” a reimagining of the John Wayne western starring Tommy Lee Jones and Zachary Levi; “Hershey,” with Finn Wittrock and Alexandra Daddario; and “Drummer Boy,” an American Revolutionary War-set Christmas musical. The studio also debuted a trailer for “Young Washington,” its historical war epic starring Kelsey Grammer, Mary-Louise Parker, Ben Kingsley, and William Franklyn-Miller as George Washington.
