After the child is declared missing, the police launches a massive investigation that sparks a media frenzy, comforting the mother in her denial.” Based on the novel “Belle Famille” by Arthur Dreyfus, this one is being compared to the films of Alfred Hitchcock, Paul Thomas Anderson and Denis Villeneuve. Rainn Wilson, David Morse, Mike Vogel, Zuleikha Robinson and Bill Sage have joined the Elijah Wood produced serial killer thriller “The Boy.” Craig MacNeill co-wrote and will direct the trilogy starting flick “tracking the childhood of a future serial killer, with installments depicting the character at ages 9, 14 and 18, respectively, and ending with his full transformation to an iconic mass murderer.” So a bloodier version of “Boyhood” then? Kate Beckinsale has joined Simon Pegg, Robin Williams, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Eddie Izzard, Joanna Lumley and the voices of Monty Python members John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle and Michael Palin in Terry Jones‘ “Absolutely Anything.” The wacky comedy will center on “a disillusioned school teacher who suddenly finds he has the ability to do anything he wishes, a challenge bestowed upon him by a group of power-crazed aliens watching from space.” [Deadline]

The all-star cast of Gabriele Muccino‘s “Fathers And Daughters“—Russell Crowe, Aaron Paul, Amanda Seyfried, Octavia Spencer, Quvenzhane Wallis and Diane Kruger—has added Haley Bennett to their ranks. The film will chronicle “the bond between a father (Crowe) and daughter living in New York. The Brad Desch script moves back and forth between the 1980s where Jake Davis, a famous novelist and widower, struggles with mental illness as he tries to raise his 5-year-old daughter, Katie, and the life of 30-year-old Katie (Seyfried) in present-day Manhattan where she battles the demons that stem from her troubled childhood.” [Deadline]

Lastly, “Breaking Bad” star Jonathan Banks has joined the Vince Vaughn and Hailee Steinfeld starring thriller “Term Life.” The story follows “a man who designs and sells heists to the highest bidder. But when a job goes terribly wrong, he ends up with a target on his back. In a rare selfless act, he takes out a life insurance policy with his estranged daughter as the beneficiary. However, he discovers the policy doesn’t take effect for 21 days, and so he’s tasked with staying alive for that long.” Peter Billingsley directs and production starts next month. [THR]
