Afonso Poyart To Helm Supernatural 'Solace' Starring Anthony Hopkins

nullIt appears things are finally moving on the long gestating supernatural-crime thriller, "Solace," which Anthony Hopkins has been attached to since last fall. In case you need a refresher, the film will follow a psychic doctor, played by Hopkins, who works for the FBI and is on the trail of a serial killer. And this movie has been in the works forever with a batch of writers (Ted Griffin, Sean Bailey, James Vanderbilt), actors (Morgan Freeman, Bruce Willis) and directors (Shekhar Kapur, Mark Pellington) coming and going at various points.

Variety reports that the Brazilian helmer behind "2 Coelhos," Afonso Poyart, is in talks with New Line to make his English-language directorial debut. The film, which started life as a spec script by Ted Griffin and Sean Bailey, was at one conceived as possible sequel to "Se7en" (hence Freeman's involvement) and at another point a Willis-starring thriller. So we'll be curious to see what form the movie now takes.

Peter Morgan has done the latest draft that hopefully meets with Hopkins’ exacting standards. But even with a new director now on board, no official start date has yet been decided on. But you can check out Poyart's skills with the "2 Coelhos" trailer below.
