Despite the drama between Netflix and Marvel TV, and the impending launch of Disney’s own streaming service, ABC isn’t deterred and wants to open up its Marvel offerings beyond “Agents of SHIELD.” However, it appears that the network is going to have to keep looking, as the most recent attempt at a superhero TV series has been officially killed.

In a new report from Deadline, it’s been revealed that ABC is passing on the untitled female-centric team-up series that producer/writer Allan Heinberg had been working on for a while now. ABC boss Karey Burke told the outlet that the series, which was to combine some of Marvel’s lesser-known female characters into one ensemble show, will not be going forward to the pilot stage.
Alas, that doesn’t mean that ABC is getting out of the Marvel TV business, which it appears that Netflix is currently trying to do. “I hope there is more than we are doing together,” she said. What that “more” looks like now is hard to say. Obviously, even though Marvel Studios (aka Kevin Feige) seems to be consolidating his TV offerings on the upcoming Disney+, it looks like Marvel TV is still working outside of the streaming service, with partners like ABC, Netflix (for the time being), and Freeform.

As mentioned, fans didn’t even get an idea of what characters might have shown up in this untitled series. Rumors circulated that the series was going to be something akin to the recent Marvel series “A-Force,” which was a de facto ‘Avengers’ offshoot that was led by She-Hulk and featured some of the Marvel Universe’s female heroes.
At this point, we may never know what was being pitched. What we do know is that this project joins the “Hulk” series and ‘SHIELD’ spin-off featuring the character Mockingbird.
