It looks like we really need to finally catch up with this show. Only two seasons old, “American Horror Story” is becoming a titan. Last year, the show earned 17 Emmy nominations (going on to win 2) and this year, it has matched that figure once again.
This morning, the Emmy nominations were unveiled and “American Horror Story: Asylum” took home the most nominations with 17 nods, beating out HBO‘s “Game Of Thrones,” which earned 16. But they weren’t the only ones throwing their weight around. Steven Soderbergh‘s “Behind The Candelabra” has 15 nominations (they can just go ahead and give Michael Douglas the trophy already), while “Breaking Bad” and “30 Rock” both landed lucky 13.
History was made as “House Of Cards” and “Arrested Development” became the first digitally distributed shows to get mentioned in major categories (they earned 9 and 1 nominations, respectively), which can only give Netflix more clout as they continue to develop original content. But they’ll have a long way to catch up with HBO who led all networks with 108 nods, handily outpacing cable rivals Showtime (31) and network competition ABC and CBS (53 each).
The awards will be handed out on September 22nd. Check out the full list of nominees below. Any snubs or shoutouts you want to mention? Hit our comments section. [Indiewire/Variety]
