The work of author George Orwell (“1984”) has sadly become more relevant than ever, with multiple cautionary tales of fascism, and goes without saying with director Andy Serkis‘ latest animated take on “Animal Farm,” another story that warns of authoritarian rule, this time using a bunch of barnyard animals in a PG setting.
This new version of “Animal Farm” heads to theaters next month, and the final trailer has made its way to us to share. Nicholas Stoller, who recently played a fictionalized version of himself in the hit Apple TV series “The Studio,” wrote the script based on Orwell’s novel.

The impressive voice cast assembled by Serkis includes Seth Rogen, Gaten Matarazzo, Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Laverne Cox, Kieran Culkin, Woody Harrelson, Jim Parsons, Kathleen Turner, Iman Vellani, and Serkis himself.
An official logline for “Animal Farm” courtesy of Angel Studios:
A satirical allegory of revolution and power. Animal Farm traces how a movement for equality is systematically corrupted. As the pigs consolidate control, truth is erased, dissent is crushed, and the farm descends into a ruthless dictatorship—fulfilling Orwell’s warning about the dangers of communism.
Serkis, who was the second unit director on Peter Jackson‘s “Hobbit” trilogy, is also gearing up to direct the high-profile studio blockbuster “The Hunt for Gollum” in New Zealand over the summer, a new “Lord of the Rings” side quest film at New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. that explores events that lead up to “Fellowship of the Ring.” The project is expected to feature Ian McKellen back as Gandalf the Grey, Kate Winslet, a new actor in the role of Aragorn, Serkis as Gollum, and other original actors expected to be announced in the coming months.
Audiences can get a good idea of what they’re in store for with Serkis’ “Animal Farm” with the final trailer that can be viewed below, as the pic hits theaters on May 1.
