'Moonlight's' Ashton Sanders & 'Westworld's' Jeffrey Wright To Star In Film From 'Black Panther' Writer

It feels like Netflix does nothing but make terrible movies. Not to throw shade at Netflix, but with the sheer number of films the company produces, it feels like, for every 10 so-so endeavors, there’s only one film worth noting. So, while the streaming company has a stigma of producing film duds, we can’t forget they also have produced work like “Beasts of No Nation” and “Mudbound,” among others. And today, Deadline is reporting that there’s another film about to begin production, and it has enough talent to raise quite a few eyebrows.

According to the report, the streaming company is about to begin production on a new film titled “All Day & A Night.” The film comes from writer-director Joe Robert Cole, who is a bit of a rockstar around Hollywood nowadays. The filmmaker is responsible for co-writing this year’s massive surprise, “Black Panther,” and has already lined up a few projects due to his newfound spotlight.

“All Day & A Night” follows a young man, who is incarcerated for homicide as he deals with a long-term prison sentence. The drama is said to be from his point-of-view as he deals with the repercussions of his actions. ‘All Day’ is set to star Ashton Sanders, who had a standout role in the Oscar-winning film “Moonlight,” and Jeffrey Wright, who is an accomplished actor that many will know from his Emmy-nominated role on “Westworld.”

This is the latest big project from Cole, who is also working with Netflix on a major film, titled “Failsafe.” That film is based on a comic book and is being written by Cole, with “Black Panther” actor Michael B. Jordan circling as the star.

As per usual with Netflix, there’s no release date set for the film, but production is said to begin at the end of this month.
