'Batgirl' Star Leslie Grace Is "Proud" Of The Work Done On The Now-Shelved Superhero Film

While it’s now appearing that the decision to shelve “Batgirl” is just one piece to a much larger puzzle over at Warner Bros. Discovery, it doesn’t change the fact that the cancellation of a film that cost $90 million and was nearly complete is still huge news. Obviously, the news hit differently for those directly involved in the production, including the filmmakers and the star of the film, Leslie Grace.

After some conspicuous silence for the first day after the announcement that her film, “Batgirl,” wouldn’t ever get released, actress Leslie Grace posted on her Instagram, thanking everyone involved in the film and seemingly being optimistic about the whole situation.

“On the heels of the recent news about our movie ‘Batgirl,’ I am proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland,” Grace wrote. “I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process! To every Batgirl fan – THANK YOU for the love and belief, allowing me to take on the cape and become, as Babs said best, ‘my own damn hero!’ #Batgirl for life!”

Folks had been wondering what Grace would say in light of the news. Before “Batgirl,” Grace was best known for her breakout role in the musical film, “In the Heights.” However, the superhero film was poised to be the role that would launch her into superstardom. On social media, in the months after it was announced she would play the title role in the film, Grace would post all sorts of things about how excited she was to be Batgirl. It was clear that the actress was fully invested in the role and excited to see what would happen. Now, that dream has been dashed, but Grace is keeping her head held high in light of the devastating news.

Judging by all the reports we’ve seen, the film was shelved permanently due to monetary reasons. WBD had a small window of time when the studio could take a loss on this film (and the “Scoob!” sequel) where the higher-ups could push it on the previous regime and it wouldn’t show up negatively upon the merger. In addition, it’s clear now that new WBD CEO David Zaslav has very different ideas about what to do with HBO Max than the previous boss, as the CEO is now canceling streaming films, removing other films from the already existing library, and is rumored to be making huge cuts to the development of future HBO Max projects.

Again, the “Batgirl” news is just one single piece in this big puzzle. Nevertheless, it’s good to know that Leslie Grace is handling the whole situation with, well, uh, grace.
