As we approach the beginning of production on the forthcoming “Captain America: New World Order,” it appears that fans will be in for a blast from the past. 15 years after her one and only appearance in the MCU, Liv Tyler is set to rejoin Marvel for the upcoming ‘Captain America 4.’

According to THR, Liv Tyler will reprise her role as Betty Ross in the upcoming Marvel Studios film, “Captain American: New World Order.” Her only other appearance in the MCU came in 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk,” where she played the love interest of Bruce Banner, aka Hulk, and the daughter of Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, played by William Hurt. The latter character, now played by Harrison Ford after the passing of Hurt, is already confirmed to show up in ‘New World Order’ and likely in the forthcoming “Thunderbolts.”
Outside of the aforementioned Hurt, the cast of “The Incredible Hulk” has largely been sidelined in the MCU. Last year, we did see the return of Tim Roth as Abomination, but that’s about it. Of course, it’s worth mentioning that “The Incredible Hulk” stars Edward Norton as the title character, who was then replaced by Mark Ruffalo for “The Avengers” and all subsequent appearances. But now, it seems as if Tyler is going to make her return. Interestingly, it’s already been confirmed that Tim Blake Nelson, another ‘Incredible Hulk’ actor, is also going to show up in the new ‘Cap’ film too.

And obviously, considering Harrison Ford is showing up as Thunderbolt Ross, it makes sense that “Captain America: New World Order” would have the reappearance of Betty Ross. It’s unclear how much of a role Tyler will have in the new film. With a stacked cast that seems to be growing every day, it wouldn’t be shocking to learn that Tyler has a small role. But as with everything in the MCU, she could show up in a variety of ways down the line, especially as it’s assumed Ford’s role is going to expand over time, as well.
“Captain America: New World Order” is the first film in the franchise to be led by Anthony Mackie, who takes over the title role from Chris Evans. The film is directed by Julius Onah. It’s expected to be released on May 3, 2024.
