Casey Affleck Is The 'Villain'

Generally speaking, we tend to associate Casey Affleck with intense dramas such as this fall’s Oscar contender “Manchester By The Sea,” but not so much with material that leans toward the genre side of things. But it would seem that the actor and filmmaker likes to weave stories that step away from the realism of the projects he’s usually involved with. Affleck will be gearing up pre-production soon on “Light Of My Life,” a post-pandemic drama that he’s writing, directing and starring in. And now, another one of his scripts is putting an interesting twist on the standard revenge movie.

Deadline reports that Affleck will star and write in the simply titled “Villain,” with Swedish helmer Mikael Marcimain directing. The story starts off like a latter-day Liam Neeson project, following a man who loses everything after a home invasion, and is left for dead with two bullets in his head. But from there, the story sees the character surviving and gaining the power to see into the past, present and future, and then embarking on a mission to get revenge on the men who killed his family, only to see the lines between hero and villain getting blurred. Alright, we’re game.
