Chris Evans In Negotiations To Play The Dentist In 'Little Shop Of Horrors' Remake

Apparently, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson just can’t get enough of each other. After starring alongside each other in a number of films, including their run in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Evans is reportedly close to signing on to star opposite the actress in the upcoming remake of “Little Shop of Horrors.”

According to THR, Evans is in negotiations to play the role of dentist Orin Scrivello in the upcoming musical. If he signs on, he’s set to join the cast that is reportedly going to include Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johansson, and Billy Porter.

The film is based on the musical of the same name that tells the story of Seymour, a hapless florist that is in love with his co-worker Audrey and discovers the existence of a carnivorous plant, Audrey II. Things get complicated for Seymour when Audrey II begins to demand more human blood and, eventually, actual bodies for food. If the deals all come together, Egerton will portray Seymour, while Johansson will play Audrey. Porter is already signed to voice the plant, Audrey II.

As mentioned, Evans would portray Scrivello, who is the abusive boyfriend for Audrey. The role was filled by Steve Martin in Frank Oz’s 1986 film version of the musical. This would mark a pretty big departure for Evans, who most recently was seen as the smartass Ransom in “Knives Out.” And of course, he’s probably best known as Captain America in the various films of the MCU. So, playing an abusive dentist with his own signature song? That’s new territory for the versatile actor.

No release date has been set for “Little Shop of Horrors,” but production is expected to begin sometime this summer. The new remake will be directed by Greg Berlanti.
