The final pieces of the puzzle have fallen into place for the indie drama “A Late Quartet.” Following our exclusive reports last week of Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener joining the film, an official press release has confirmed their involvement as well as the rest of the players for the forthcoming picture.
The recently rumored Christopher Walken and Imogen Poots are officially on board as are Jeremy Northam and Liraz Charhi (“Fair Game“). Co-written by director Yaron Zilberman and Seth Grossman, the film chronicles the elder leader of a famed string quartet who is suffering from Parkinson’s Disease, throwing the future of the renowned group into question. As the quartet struggles to stay together on the eve of their 25th season, the group’s once-tempered egos and lusts violently collide.
Ethan Hawke, attached early in the film’s development, was unfortunately forced to bow out due to scheduling conflicts, but the talent assembled here is certainly promising. Hoffman and Keener are two heavyweight indie thesps and this film will mark their third pairing together following “Synecdoche, New York” and “Capote” and with Walken and the on-the-rise Poots in the mix, we’re excited to see how this exciting original premise will unfold on the big screen.
Shooting is set to begin in New York City this month marking Zilberman’s feature debut after his 2004 documentary, “Watermarks,” about an Austrian woman’s swim team in the ‘30s. The film will be distributed by RKO Pictures. No release date has been set but we’d wager a TIFF bow isn’t out of the question.
