'Close' Trailer: Noomi Rapace Is A Badass Bodyguard In New Netflix Action-Thriller

Sometimes you want to watch a film that’s bound to win a dozen awards and be called the best of the year. And sometimes you just want to watch a film that features lots of things blowing up and bullets flying around. If you’re interested in that second scenario, Netflix is starting 2019 off with a bang thanks to its upcoming original film “Close.”

As seen in the first trailer for the film, Noomi Rapace stars as the best damn bodyguard in the world, who is assigned a brand-new client – a rich heiress that is definitely someone you’d probably seen hocking herbal, diet teas on Instagram. On a trip to the Middle East, as the young heiress has to take a more hands-on role in her father’s company, things go haywire, with bullets flying, explosions exploding, and a rousing soundtrack feeding the excitement. Our description might sound a bit glib, but believe us, this isn’t a terrible trailer, by any means.

“Close” comes from writer-director Vicky Jewson, who is probably best known for her films “Lady Godiva” and “Born of War.” And by what is shown in this footage, it appears that the director has crafted a pretty interesting action thriller that is well-above the dreck that you’d probably associate with straight to VOD or streaming films.

Of course, we won’t find out for sure until we can watch “Close” for ourselves. Netflix is set to release the upcoming film on January 18, so plan accordingly.

Here’s the synopsis:

Close, an adrenaline-pumping action thriller written and directed by Vicky Jewson (Born of War), is inspired by the life of the world’s leading female bodyguard, Jacquie Davis. The film stars Noomi Rapace as Sam, a counter-terrorist expert used to war zones, who takes on the job of protecting Zoe (Sophie Nélisse), a young and rich heiress — a babysitting job for her. But a violent attempted kidnapping forces the two to go on the run. Now they’ve got to take some lives — or lose theirs.
