Dave Bautista Publicly Asks For A Role On James Gunn's 'Suicide Squad 2' As David Ayer Responds To The News

It’s not every day that you see a star in a billion-dollar franchise actively try to leave his role. But when you’re Dave Bautista and you feel like your studio made a huge mistake, apparently you do everything in your power to make sure the world knows you’re unhappy. After publicly condemning Disney for the firing of “Guardians of the Galaxy” director James Gunn, star Bautista has gone a step further and publicly offered his services to Gunn for his new gig on “Suicide Squad 2.”

As we mentioned yesterday, the filmmaker decided to jump ship over to Warner Bros./DC Films and sign on to write (and possibly direct) “Suicide Squad 2,” although the film is not described as a sequel. Either way, it’s clear there’s no repairing the relationship between Gunn and Disney, as many see this move as a true “F*ck you!” to the Marvel Studios’ parent company. And since he’s never been a man to let a good “F*ck you!” go to waste, Bautista wants to hop on the Gunn bandwagon and take a stab at the competition’s superhero world.

In a tweet, as he shared the news of Gunn’s new gig, the actor simply said, “Where do I sign up!” Simple. To the point. And with no ambiguity, whatsoever. If the filmmaker were to make the call, there’s no doubt that Bautista would sign on to be a tree in the background of “Suicide Squad 2,” just on principle, alone.

We’ll have to see if that comes to fruition, as you have to imagine WB would love to have the actor join its ranks.

Yesterday, we talked about how Gunn’s new gig forced Gavin O’Connor to exit the project and focus on another film. But we failed to mention how the previous “Suicide Squad” director reacted to the news. If you don’t remember, filmmaker David Ayer was the biggest cheerleader of the film, actually saying “F*ck Marvel!” at the world premiere. Then, once the film became a flop with critics, the director opened up more about the troubles behind the scenes.

Regardless of his experience on the first film, Ayer is nothing but happy to see Gunn take over. He tweeted, “I think it’s an incredibly brave and smart move by the studio. James is the right man for the job!”

So, while the folks at Marvel Studios (particularly Kevin Feige, who is said to have been a big supporter of Gunn despite Disney’s decision) are watching this play out and wondering how this all came to be, WB/DC, Bautista, Ayer, and many more are excited to see what lies ahead for Gunn.
