'My Dinner with Hervé' Trailer: Peter Dinklage Sheds Light On The Hard-Partying Star Of 'Fantasy Island'

Even though he was one of the most popular actors of his time, not much is known about Hervé Villechaize. In fact, people don’t even know where he’s from. Wikipedia, admittedly not the best of resources, started a social media controversy surrounding the film because the folks that read the site believed that Villechaize was from the Philippines. This sparked a whitewashing controversy surrounding Peter Dinklage’s casting in the new film “My Dinner with Hervé.”

Luckily, HBO’s new film is going to set the record straight, for better or worse. “My Dinner with Hervé” stars the aforementioned Emmy-winning Dinklage as the French (not from the Phillippines) actor and star of the popular ‘70s TV series “Fantasy Island.” The film focuses on the meeting between Villechaize and a reporter, who go on to spark a great friendship over the course of a fun-filled night in Hollywood.

Joining Dinklage in the “My Dinner with Hervé” cast are Jamie Dornan, Mireille Enos, Harriet Walter, Oona Chaplin, and David Strathairn. The film is directed by Sacha Gervasi, who is probably best known for “Hitchcock” and “Anvil! The Story of Anvil.”

HBO is premiering the film on October 20.

Here are the official synopsis and new trailer:

Inspired by a real story, MY DINNER WITH HERVE explores the unlikely friendship between struggling journalist Danny Tate (Dornan) and Hervé Villechaize (Dinklage), the world’s most famous knife-wielding French dwarf actor, as it unfolds over one wild night in LA — an encounter that will have life-changing consequences for both.
