'The Crown': Dominic West To Play Prince Charles In Final Two Seasons

As a huge fan of “The Wire,” Dominic West is one of the most underrated actors working today. Not only is he just great in a variety of roles, particularly as a Baltimore police officer, but he’s so convincing that I’m ashamed to admit that it wasn’t until well after I finished the series that I realized he’s actually British. And now, he’s apparently going to take on one of the most British roles of all time, as Prince Charles in the upcoming seasons of “The Crown.”

According to Variety, West is in talks to take over the role of Prince Charles in the final two seasons of Netflix’s Emmy-winning series, “The Crown.” As the series has previously done between Seasons 2 and 3, the drama is overhauling the cast and moving forward in time significantly between Seasons 4 and 5, allowing for a whole new set of actors to tell the story of the Queen and the Royal Family. As we’ve seen in the trailer for Season 4, which is set to arrive in November, the story is beginning to shift from its focus on Queen Elizabeth to the story of Charles and Diana, who is set to be played by Elizabeth Debicki in the final two seasons. So, West will have a fairly significant role in the home stretch.

As mentioned, West is probably best known for his role in HBO’s “The Wire,” which is one of the best dramas that TV has ever produced. In addition to that role, he’s been in a number of other high-profile TV series such as a lead role in “The Affair” and Netflix’s recent limited series “Stateless.” On the film side of things, he’s shown up in projects like “300,” “Punisher: War Zone,” “The Square,” and “Tomb Raider.”
