Alden Ehrenreich Says "A Lot Of Jokes" Are What Separate 'Solo' From Previous 'Star Wars' Films

With the release of “Solo: A Star Wars Story” less than two months away, the media blitz has begun. The cast and crew of the film will begin their press tour, and we’ll finally learn more about the film. And it looks like the first place to get the ‘Solo’ press tour is the “Star Wars” YouTube channel, where they got a chance to interview Han, himself, Alden Ehrenreich.

The question on everyone’s mind is about the tone of the film. When the director shakeup happened, with comedy directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being fired and replaced by Ron Howard, fans wondered if that meant that ‘Solo’ would take a more serious approach.

Many fans actually applauded the move, saying that the “Star Wars” films didn’t need to be full of jokes and quips. For those fans, we would like to say sorry. It seems like even without Lord and Miller, ‘Solo’ is going to definitely still be comedic.

When asked how ‘Solo’ will differ from previous “Star Wars” films, Ehrenreich says, “It has a lot of jokes. A lot of humor. You spend a lot more time dealing with the feelings and the kinda inner life of the characters.”

It seems as if the rumors of Lord and Miller being replaced because their take on the character was too silly might be off a little. And if you look at the footage in the trailers, there are definitely jokes. Maybe Lord and Miller were going full-on “Looney Tunes?”

Ehrenreich went on to discuss what it feels like to be part of the franchise. Of course, the actor has been at the center of another huge debate about the film. Namely, will he be any good as Han? While no one knows for sure, there have been rumors about hiring an acting coach to help the struggling Ehrenreich, and that Disney wants him to be a Harrison Ford clone. So, you would think that the actor might be petrified about what’s ahead when the film is released, but he’s not.

He describes the joy he had at Star Wars Celebration, where he was announced as the star, “You don’t know what to think. But you go there and just the love that people have for the story and the world and the franchise and everything. It means so much to people and you kinda ride on that wave of their positivity and excitement for it.”

Oh boy, Alden, we have some bad news for you. If you aren’t any good in the film, the positivity in the fanbase will quickly leave, and you’ll be skewered like little Jake Lloyd and Hayden Christensen before you. We got our fingers crossed for you, bud.

“Solo: A Star Wars Story” will have its worldwide release May 25.
