First Behind The Scenes Footage Revealed For Xavier Dolan's ‘The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan’

One movie that didn’t make the cut of our 100 Most Anticipated Films Of 2017 was Xavier Dolan‘s “The Death And Life Of John F. Donovan” —rest assured that it’s not because we’re not looking forward to the film. The director himself said principal photography wouldn’t be finished until June 2017, and so while it could theoretically be assembled in time for a fall release, we doubt that it’ll happen (unless a U.S. distributor picks it up for the awards season). All this is to say that Dolan still has a lot of work to do on the film, but he allowed CNN to stop by the set to see what he’s up to.

The star-studded movie, which is partially being shot on 65mm, stars Jessica Chastain, Kit Harington, Taylor Kitsch, Kathy BatesSusan Sarandon, Natalie Portman and Thandie Newton in a story that follows an American TV star in his late 20s, his correspondence with a young actor-to-be living with his mother in England, and what happens when their pen pal relationship is publicly exposed.

“I always wanted to tell that story about intolerance and about how Hollywood casts aside different people,” Dolan explained about the film. “To me good storytelling, the storytelling that I enjoy watching, is about precision.”

The quick report on the production is a nice tease of the film to come, especially as it seems we’re going to waiting a while for it to arrive. [via The Film Stage]
