Just days after we revealed that John Hillcoat's upcoming prohibition drama "The Wettest County" had changed its name to "Lawless" (with Terrence Malick's blessing no less), Entertainment Weekly has given us what is essentially the first official look at the film (everything seen thus far has been set photos, albeit really good ones in some cases).
Featuring Shia LaBeouf and Tom Hardy as two of the three main brothers in the film (the third is newcomer Jason Clarke), and set in depression-era Franklin County, Virginia, the duo portray moonshiners in a family-run bootlegging gang that is threatened by authorities who want a cut of their profits (Hardy's character was evidently supposed to be skinny, but he was forced to bulk up because of his participation in "The Dark Knight Rises").
Starring Hardy, LaBeouf, Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska, plus up-and-comers Clarke and Dane DeHaan, "Lawless," is set for an August 31st release date and it'll likely premiere at the Venice Film Festival just a few days earlier when the Lido kicks off on August 29th.
