'The Forty-Year-Old Version' Trailer: Radha Blank Is A Struggling Playwright In This Sundance Standout

Who says the pandemic is going to prevent studios from releasing incredible films this fall? Apparently, Netflix didn’t get this memo, as the company prepares to release the acclaimed Sundance film, “The Forty-Year-Old Version.”

As seen in the new trailer for the film, “The Forty-Year-Old Version” comes from writer-director Radha Blank, who stars as a, uh, version of herself (albeit less successful), a struggling writer that is at a crossroads in her life. After receiving acclaim at a young age, the woman is now in her 40s and questioning if she’ll ever live up to the expectations others placed on her as a young playwright. So, how does she decide to reinvent herself? As a rapper that aims to share her thoughts and feelings through verses.

In addition to Blank, the film stars Peter Kim, Oswin Benjamin, Imani Lewis, Haskiri Velazquez, Antonio Ortiz, TJ Atoms, Jacob Ming Trent, Stacey Sargeant, William Oliver Watkins, Meghan O’Neill, André Ward, Welker White, and Reed Birney. As mentioned, the film is written and directed by Blank. In addition to this film, she’s recently been a writer on TV series such as “She’s Gotta Have It” and “Empire.”

We saw the film when it screened at this year’s Sundance, and in our review, we applauded the feature and said, “But remember Radha Blank’s name cause, for real, this is the start of something big.”

“The Forty-Year-Old Version” debuts on Netflix on October 9.

Here’s the synopsis:

Radha, a down-on-her-luck NY playwright, is desperate for a breakthrough before 40.
