People seem to enjoy the latest reboot-quel, “Ghostbusters: Afterlife,” which takes the beloved franchise, adds some younger actors, brings back the originals, and tells a slightly remixed story. So, in honor of that film, why not figure out what other franchises are gathering dust on the shelf and should be looked at for potential revivals? Sure, “reboot” and “revival” are cheap buzzwords that often get lambasted online because “studios are running out of ideas” and “just watch the original!” But sometimes, just sometimes, they work. Think of things like “Halloween,” “Creed,” and the “Planet of the Apes” trilogy for more recent examples. So, why not take some tasty franchises that are often forgotten and see if we can’t squeeze some more juice out of them?
What franchises are we talking about? Well, it’s quite the list. How about a new Brendan Fraser-led “Mummy?” Or another round of Mark Millar’s “Kick-Ass?” And finally, who isn’t amped for a new “Crank?” (Okay, that last one is just for me, but if you are someone else with an unhealthy appreciation of Neveldine/Taylor, let me know!)
