Musician Frank Ocean is reportedly set to make his feature film directorial debut with a new mysterious project, and he’s secured two very bright stars on the rise for the lead roles.
The casting revealed by Variety back in January mentioned that British actor David Jonsson, the breakout from “Alien: Romulus” and winner of the BAFTA Rising Star Award, is set for a lead role in the project.
A big update for the secretive Frank Ocean feature came on Friday, as Deadline mentioned that Canadian actress Taylor Russell from Luca Guadagnino‘s cannibal drama “Bones & All” is co-starring in the untitled film after a high-profile exit from Michael B. Jordan‘s “Thomas Crown Affair” remake at Amazon MGM Studios.
Jonsson will be next seen in Lionsgate‘s “The Long Walk,” a Stephen King adaptation coming from director Francis Lawrence. Other things the young actor has attached himself to include “Wasteman” alongside Tom Blyth, and was recently announced for a role in Colman Domingo‘s directorial debut “Scandalous,” starring opposite Sydney Sweeney.
Russell also has a role in the upcoming Korean flick “Hope” by Na Hong-jin opposite Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander, and Hoyeon.
DiscussingFilm once claimed in 2022 that Ocean’s project had some interest from A24, although there is zero mention of the studio’s involvement in the two subsequent casting reports, but that could change.
We’re still waiting for concrete plot/character details, but the project was said to have started filming back in January in Mexico City, as the location may have some connection to the Frank Ocean film. As we wait for further information.
