Between the petitions and heated discourse, this final season of the fantasy epic has garnered something of a ‘Last Jedi’ reaction online. Many fans felt the showrunners, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, botched the writing, rushing through this final season causing some of the weightier moments to conclude with a whimper. However, on the flip side, others still managed to find enjoyment in the 8-season climax despite its shortcomings. Where do we fall? Well, somewhere in the middle.

On this special episode, I’m joined by film critic Kathia Woods and Director of Programming for the Austin Asian American Film Festival Jenny Nulf as we break down the series finale and discuss Season 8 as a whole in FULL SPOILERS. The three of us debate whether the finale brought the story to a satisfying end, if Seasons 7 and 8 should have been a full 10 episodes, if George R.R. Martin will end the story in a similar way, and we conclude with a discussion on the future and legacy of “Game of Thrones.”
