'Gentefied' Trailer: Netflix's New Drama Brings Us To The Heights

February is all about love and Netflix’s new original show “Gentefied” perfectly fits the bill. The streaming platform’s new offering is all about love — love of friends, family, romance, and love for where you come from. It’s got a little something for everyone. The show, adapted from the 2017 Sundance film of the same name, focuses on the Morales cousins balancing their culture, community, and everything that comes along with it, all while fighting to protect their family’s Mexican shop from gentrification. Show creators Marvin Lemus and Linda Yvette Chávez intend for the show to be their love letter to the Latinx and Boyle Heights communities

“Gentefied” brings some relatively new faces to the screen. The cast features Joaquín Cosio (“Quantum of Solace”), Karrie Martin (the upcoming film “The Tax Collector”) and Carlos Santos (“Ghost Team One”). Audiences can expect to know a couple of faces in front of and behind scenes though as Wilmer Valderrama is set to guest star and America Ferrera is executive producing, along with directing two episodes.

Take a look at the official synopsis for “Gentefied” below:

Created by two Chicano first-gen writers, Gentefied is a half-hour dramatic comedy adapted from the 2017 Sundance digital darling of the same name. In this badass bilingual series about family, community, brown love, and the displacement that disrupts it all, three Mexican-American cousins struggle to chase the American Dream, even while that same dream threatens the things they hold most dear: their neighborhood, their immigrant grandfather, and the family taco shop. Set in a rapidly changing Los Angeles, the Spanglish dramedy will navigate important themes like identity, class, and balancing insta-fame with translating memes for their parents. But most importantly, Gentefied will settle once and for all how to pronounce Latinx.

All 10 episodes of “Gentefied” drop on Netflix on February 21. Here is the official trailer for the show.
